Setup & Getting Started
New to Lyd? Follow the steps below to get started quickly.
Initial Setup
Connecting to Sonos
Lyd offers two options to connect your Sonos account:
Recommended: Login to your Sonos account directly through the Lyd iPhone app. This keeps everything in sync.
Alternatively: Scan the QR code on the Lyd Apple Watch app. You can use the Lyd app on your iPhone or the regular Camera app.
Important: Use the same Sonos account that's connected to your speakers. If you have multiple people using the same Sonos system, you'll need to share the account password.
Adding Your Music
Lyd can access Sonos Favorites, Sonos Playlists, and all available streaming services. To see your music in Lyd easily:
Open the official Sonos app on your phone
Find your playlist, album, or radio station
Tap the three dots (⋯) → "Save to Sonos Favorites"
Repeat for each item you want in Lyd
Note: This doesn't include bulk-added playlists or podcast series. Each item must be added individually.
Using Lyd
Basic Controls
On Watch: Tap any room to see playback controls. Use the Digital Crown to adjust volume.
On iPhone: Interact with the "Now Playing" controls to control playback, groups, and volume.
Even better: Add Lyd Widgets to your Home Screen or Lock Screen to access basic controls without opening the app.
Widgets
Lyd offers Widgets on Apple Watch and on the iPhone. The iPhone app even includes Home Screen and Lock Screen Widgets. Add them as you would add any other Widget.
Multiple Households or S1/S2 Systems
Have speakers in different locations or both S1 and S2? Go to Options → Select household to switch between them. Make sure all systems are linked to the same Sonos account.
Live Activities (iPhone only)
Live Activities show real-time playback controls on your iPhone's Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island (iPhone 14 Pro and later). If you have Live Activities enabled, Lyd will display album artwork, song information, and playback controls without opening the app.
Changing Music (Watch only)
Select a room, then long-press on the screen or press the three dots (…) to open the menu. Choose "Change music" to browse your Sonos Favorites or search all available streaming services.
Grouping Rooms (Watch only)
Select the room with music you want to share, open the menu, then "Manage group." Choose which rooms should play the same music and tap "Done."
Voice Messages (Watch only)
Select a room, open the menu, select "Voice message", and record up to 30 seconds. Your message plays automatically on the selected speakers.
Voice Control with Siri (Watch only)
Say "Pause with Lyd" or "Louder with Lyd" (pronounce "Lyd" like "lid"). Siri will ask to activate all Lyd commands — confirm to enable voice control.
Watch Complications (Watch only)
Lyd offers Apple Watch complications — small buttons you can add to your watch face for quick access to your speakers. Add them like any other complication in the watch face editor.
Guest Mode (Watch only)
Visiting someone? Go to Options → Select household → Guest mode to control their speakers temporarily.
Troubleshooting
Speakers Disappeared After Sonos Update
Sonos updates can cause speakers to disconnect from the Sonos cloud. Try this:
Unplug one speaker
Wait 20 seconds
Plug it back in
This usually reconnects them to Sonos cloud. If this doesn't work, try unplugging a different speaker.
No Speakers Showing
On your Watch, try a force refresh by selecting "More options", then "Reload".
App Won't Install on Watch
Sometimes Apple Watch refuses to install apps. Try this:
Install through the Watch app on iPhone
If that didn't help: Open App Store directly on Apple Watch and search for "Lyd"
If Lyd still doesn't install: Restart both your Apple Watch and iPhone
Data Not Syncing between iPhone and Watch
Enable airplane mode on both devices briefly, then disable and try again. If that doesn't work, restart both devices.
